Metamorphosen – Die Anderen Wesen was my first solo exhibition, which took place in January at Tandem Art Space in Heidelberg.
I presented a selection of works from the years 2020–22, as well as a project that began in early 2023.
At the heart of these works is my exploration of simultaneous feelings of distance and belonging. I observe both forces, both in the personal and in the modern human self-understanding, which perceives itself as ruling over nature, but is simultaneously driven by a restless search for belonging.
This often conflicting interplay found its expression through the construction of a polygonal, irregular canvas, which I then deconstructed and, ultimately, reconstructed.
The works of this project can be described as grown images. They became the embodiment of a state where the old seems dead and the new has not yet been born— the time of monsters and other beings.
As constant metamorphoses, they move in a zone between the familiar and the unknown.
This state also manifests on the canvases through connections of the organic with the synthetic, and the abstract with the figurative, forming a web of belonging where there is space for stories and shape-shifting.
The Other Beings tell of an old and new world; of walking along a path, where new paths continuously branch off.
